I bought this tripod to use at a family reunion and it worked great. It raises high enough for all but the very tall. We used it both inside on a tile floor and outside on grass. I recently bought this Monopod head that goes with the Manfrotto 694 Monopod. Amazon listed this item as an accessory to the Monopod. Both of them are made for each other as they fit well as one piece. The 234RC provides a quick release just by turning the thumb handle that lets the top plate popped out. Once the plate is in place, a side pin provides additional safety to prevent the thumb handle from turning. That's definitely a nice feature in this head. Great buy so far!

At $60, this monopod fit my price range, I have a Canon 30D and use a 100-400 L lens at airshows and other sporting events where I need more stability than hand holding but a tripod is impractical.
The 680B does a perfect job. It's relatively light and sturdy. The monopod has quick release locks for the legs, which was a must for me. I don't want to screw and unscrew to achieve leg adjustment. Either with wingnuts or the barrel twist type
I use the Manfrotto 322RC2 joy stick head on it with great success, but I have also used my Manfrotto 486RC2 head..........the joy stick is more versatile.
It comes with both a 1/4" and 3/8" screw depending on what your camera requires.
If you are working in sand, where I sometimes do, Manfrotto makes an optional Spiked Foot for more stability.
At full extension without your head attached, it measures 60 inches. Colapsed it measures 20 inches w/o the head attached.
Without a doubt I would buy this monopod again.

For what I paid, I wasn't expecting the greatest tripod in the world, especially when I realized it was designed for point and shoots, but let me tell ya, this tripod works extremely well.
Its a very tough tripod, but very small when you fold it up, and its weight capacity surpised me. It held my D200 fairly well, with a little bit of trouble on vertical shots, but the ball head is great.
It even held the D200 with the 300 f/4 fairly well for a few shots, and for just over $100 bucks, that's not half bad :p.

Get these if you have a gorilla pod and you are:
a) forgetful, and lose small things
b) in possession of multiple point and shoot cameras
In reality, I don't see the need to ever take the clip off of the camera once you put it on. It is very small, less than 3mm profile when attached to the camera, so it will more than likely still fit in your case when it is attached.
With the SD1000, the memory/battery compartment can still be opened far enough to remove either when this is attached.

But I was missing out on getting good shots in low lighting conditions. Now that I've received the Bogen-Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head and done a series of interior room photos in both portrait and landscape orientation, I only regret not having it for my previous travel adventures. The ball control has enough variation in the tension to let me make subtle adjustments without losing the basic setup, or I can go all the way to vertical in a snap. I bought this head for my Nikon D40X including 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens. Another reviewer mentioned being careful to hold your camera while making adjustments--good advise when making big changes. Even so, the tension can be maintained snug enough for slight changes without fear of your camera crashing over. I planned on buying a tripod head only once, and couldn't be more satisfied with this product's ease of performance.

You really cannot go wrong with this monopod for amateur photography. If you do not want to drop upwards of $100 for a professional quality, heavy duty use monopod, this one fits the bill! It is lightweight, quick to extend and retract and sturdy. It also is quite tall (I am 5' 11" and it can extend with my Nikon D40 above my eye level!). My only suggestion is that you purchase an inexpensive tilt/swivil head (they go from about $6.00 to $30.00 on Amazon) to add to this monopod and you are all set!

considering this tripod is much, much less then the comparable gorillapod(I have both, and while the gorillapod is better at gripping onto things, it's also bigger, by far, and much more expensive for it's size), it's an extremely good product for it's price/value. The legs "can" be bent to grab onto things, but it's really not so good at that, it's more of a true pocket tripod(even has a pocket clip built onto it). 5 stars because of it's size and pricepoint.

This is my first tripod and I'm not a very experienced photographer. I've used it on a Canon PowerShot and I wouldn't recommend it for large cameras. It's been a great addition to my camera and really improves the quality of my shots and the value of the camera itself. There are many similar products. I got this one even though it was more expensive than others on Amazon because I could get free shipping.
If you're very worried about camera shake, use the tripod with the self-timer feature. I also like using the tripod to hold my small camera in my hands. Also putting my the camera in continuous shooting mode while on my dashboard during a drive produced some nice shots.
The tripod is a nice addition to a camera and its so cheap it's not worth thinking about too long. I doubt there are many differences between brands so just find the best deal.

This is such a great tripod head for those that want this type of head. Know what you're buying though. It does not allow controlled panning - get the 488RC2 if you need that. I love this head though. It does take some force to pull the "trigger" but that's somewhat controllable via a screw on the side. Remember though, a firm grip on the ball requires some pressure. To release that pressure is going to take some pressure. This head does an amazing job of holding my RebelXT in place even with my 70-200L F4. Solid as a rock.

To release that pressure is going to take some pressure. This head does an amazing job of holding my RebelXT in place even with my 70-200L F4. Solid as a rock.

I have an old tripod (from college.....sometime when the dinosaurs roamed the earth....the 70's) that still works if you are very careful....so why would I want to actually spend this thing called money on something new when mine is not really broken......this new light technology and stuff is neat....it comes with it's own bag....nice.....probably three TIMES lighter than my old one.....i used it the first week I got it....to shoot still shots.....NO flash allowed....for my daughter's drill team...indoors...at a distance....i actually extended one tripod leg onto the lower bleacher level and the pictures were priceless. I would NOT have been able to do it hand-held. Since she is my youngest, and a senior....I will NOT get to do this again. I treasure the pictures I got without a flash....because of this tripod. Needless to say, my old tripod would not have even come close to closing the deal. For me that one day of shots was worth the price of the tripod....but i can still use it for many, many years. For me it was worth every penny....i did get it on sale, which is even sweeter.

Having recently moved from the UK to Wyoming, USA I was taken aback by the quality of the night skies here and this has reignited my love of astronomy.
I was looking for a tripod to use with some Celestron binoculars I was buying at the same time from Amazon, and was not disappointed with this unit, (or the Celestron SkyMaster Giant 15x70 Binoculars for that matter).
The tripod is very well made, sturdy and lightweight, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. It also comes with two attachments which along with the quick release mechanism means that you can easily swap what you are mounting, (in my case I can swap between mounting my binoculars and digital camera in a few seconds.)
If using this stand with binoculars for star gazing you will be very glad of the tall height this tripod extends to making finding a comfortable position to use your binoculars with this tripod a breeze.
For the price, it's outstanding value.

This model, the SLR-ZOOM Gorillapod, is designed without a quick release mount so you can use your own tripod head. If you don't have your own tripod head or plan to get one, you should probably look into the original Gorillapod or the SLR Gorillapod. The SLR-ZOOM Gorillapod can support an amazing 6.6 lbs.
